Families in Crisis, Inc. offers crisis intervention counseling and support services to anyone experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault. Appointments are available Thursdays in the office at 200 E. Gentry. Call 1-888-799-SAFE. All services are free and confidential. CareNet services and schedule Hamilton County CareNet is open for walk-ins or appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until noon. They offer pre-natal and birthing classes, first aid, nutrition and hygiene classes, counseling and expert listening. Please call 386-3709 for an appointment. Al-Anon women’s group Al-Anon women’s group is held for any woman or female family member who has been affected by alcoholism or drug addiction. Women’s issues and the 12-step program will be discussed. Meetings are held every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hamilton County Carenet office, 423 N. Manning. AA meetings The Hamilton group of Alcoholics Anonymous will hold a meeting and/or a big book study on Mondays from 8-9 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in the fellowship building. Drive around to the back and look for the light. There is also a regular meeting on Thursday nights from 8-9 p.m. at 220 S. Bell Street in the old fellowship hall building. Perry Country Club membership Perry Country Club is offering 1/2 price membership fee of $100 from March 1 - May 31. The month of sign-up will be free. Neighbors to Neighbors The counselors who can answer Medicaid and Medicare questions will be in Hamilton the fourth Thursday at Hamilton County Neighbors to Neighbors. The office is located at 200 E. CareNet Baby Bottle Campaign Hamilton County CareNet will begin its “Baby Bottle Campaign” fundraiser Sunday, April 16 and run through Mother’s Day. Baby bottles have been distributed to local churches where individuals are asked to take them home and fill them with spare change to provide support and help to young mothers and their unborn children. The change from one bottle can provide free pregnancy testing, assist with transportation needs and provide encouragement and counseling. Local businesses will be contacted in the near future and asked to support the campaign by providing bottles in their establishments. Experience Works program The Experience Works program, (formerly Green Thumb) is an organization focused on meeting, training and employing the rapidly growing older population. Shive Cemetery Association workday Shive Cemetery Association will hold its annual workday and meeting on Saturday, May 10. Those attending should bring weedeaters, and small lawn mowers. Fund for Luke Carter family A fund has been set up at Extraco Bank to benefit the family of Luke Carter who died suddenly leaving his wife, Wendy and two young children, Caden and Carson. The fund is set up in the name of Angie Massingill for the benefit of Wendy Carter. Lanham Community Social The monthly Lanham Community Social covered dish dinner will be May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Community members are invited to bring their favorite covered dish to the Lanham United Methodist Church and enjoy dinner and visiting with friends. Relay For Life luminaria purchases Individuals are invited to support the Relay for Life effort by purchasing a luminaria in honor or in memory of a loved one who has been touched by cancer. Luminaria named in honor or memory of cancer patients will be lighted and placed around the perimeter of the courthouse square on the evening of May 16 during a special candle lighting ceremony. St. John Mens Club chicken and sausage sale The St. John Men’s Club and Senior Youth will hold their annual chicken and sausage barbecue on Mother’s Day weekend, May 8-10 at St. John Family Life Center on Highway 22. There will also be a booth on the southwest corner of the square downtown at the Highway 36 and 281intersection on Friday and at the golf cart location, 281 N. on Saturday. St. Mary’s pre-Mother’s Day bake sale The women of St. Mary’s will hold their pre-Mother’s Day bake sale on Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. until noon in front of Lawrence Brother’s on the east side of the square. Items for sale will include homemade pies, cakes, cookies, breads, etc., including sugar-free items. Hamilton Hill-Aceous bike tour The Hamilton Hill-Aceous 100 bike tour will be held, rain or shine, at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. All rides begin and end at the north entrance of Hamilton Municipal Airport. Prior to Monday, May 12, registration is $25. Family members of two or more are $20 each. American Legion poppy drive The American Legion Auxiliary will hold their annual poppy drive on May 10 around town. All donations will go toward veterans in Hamilton County. Relay For Life benefit The First United Methodist Church Relay for Life Team invites everyone to their tent for a time to remember the sights and tastes of times gone by. See hand-made quilts, aprons and bonnets. Purchase homemade treats baked from family recipes including tea cakes, sugar cookies and pound cakes. Enjoy a hearty breakfast before sunrise Saturday. Buy hot pancakes for $2 a plate at 5 a.m. The event begins May 16 at 7 p.m. around the courthouse lawn and continues until 7 a.m. on May 17. “Support the American Cancer Society with us.” Retama Trio performance The Retama Trio, consisting of Eva Bailey on violin, Charlotte Rabbe on ‘cello and Marian Rogers on piano will perform Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center on West Main. Music will be classical and show tunes. Sue Cummings will clog before intermission, which will include refreshments. This event is being sponsored by the Woman’s Council. The admission of $5 will be used for the upkeep of the Fine Arts building. Retirement party for Sandy Hall The community is invited to a retirement party for Sandy Hall on June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Jayson Harris Pavilion. He taught in Pottsville from the fall of 1982 through the spring of 1988. He began teaching in Evant the fall of 1988 and he remains there. Those who are honoring Mr. Hall with a party hope to see friends, family, ex students and teaching staff there as they celebrate his 26 years of teaching. They ask that you share this message with any of Mr. Hall’s past students. They also ask that you bring your many memories of Mr. Hall, a chair and the drink of your choice. Food will be provided. Native plant expert in Somervell County Native plant expert Evaline Woodrey will be in Somervell County to explain how to use native and adapted plants in your landscape. She has been a plant enthusiast for many years as well as a member of the Native Plant Society of Texas and the Native Prairie Association of Texas. She has created native garden spaces for the public and also her own private wildlife habitat using native plants and xeriscape techniques. The Master Gardeners will also be selling native and adaptive plants at this meeting. Abundant Life Ladies’ Brunch Abundant Life Women's Ministries will host their annual Ladies' Brunch at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at the American Legion Hall 281 north. Speaker will be ReGina Johnston of Bethel Church in Temple, wife of Senior Pastor Elwyn Johnston, and mother to sons Dustin and Dylan. Museum and Historical Commission meetings The Hamilton County Historical Commission and the Hamilton County Historical Museum will be having their meetings on Thursday, May 15 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Youth Center. John David Pool will present a replica of a Confederate flag that is linked to Hamilton County history. The flag presentation along with the handout Hamilton County - The Civil War Years will be the Sesquicentennial event recognizing Hamilton County history 1860 - 1865. Energy Cemetery meeting The Energy Cemetery will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at the Energy Community Center. Those attending should bring a basket lunch for the noon meal. Band concert and hamburger supper The Hamilton bands will present their annual spring concert next Monday night beginning with the fifth grade band at 7 p.m. The Band Boosters will host a hamburger supper before the concert with serving beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is the group’s final fundraiser before their Florida trip. The menu will include a hamburger, chips and drink for $5. The community is encouraged to support the band by attending both the concert, which is free and the supper. Cross Timbers Burn Association meeting The Cross Timbers Prescribed Burn Association will meet May 17th at 9:00 am in the Park Heights Church of Christ. All that are interested in the benefits that prescribed burning can add to their places are welcome. We will be laying out plans for burns next fall and winter for current members. Center Valley Cemetery meeting The Center Valley Cemetery meeting will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. Boy Scout fundraisers The Boy Scouts Troop 311 will hold a car wash at the CEFCO on Highway 281 this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations will be accepted. They will hold a bake sale on the east side of the square from 9 a.m. until everything is gone. Leanne Jackson has been helping them bake. |
