It will be several days before final tallies are available from last weekend’s Sweetest Loop, but all indicators point to the most successful event in the benefit roping’s three-year history. Last year the event raised more than $40,000, and it was hoped that this year’s Loop would top $50,000.
Hamilton General Hospital Healthcare Foundation and Scott & White Foundation co-sponsored this year's event at Circle T Arena, along with Circle T and corporate sponsor Wrangler.
Proceeds from the Tough Enough to Wear Pink fund-raiser will benefit breast cancer research and women’s wellness programs, and in its first two years the local event has provided about $64,000 for breast cancer research and paid out an amazing $500,000 in cash and prizes to the roping participants.
“We were very glad to be able to co-sponsor this event,” said HGH Healthcare Foundation president Robert Witzsche. “While the Foundation will receive some of the funds, the real winners are the women that will be helped as we continue to address women’s health issues through education and research.”
“The community participation was tremendous,” said Circle T’s Ken Beshears. “There were volunteers everywhere, and those who weren’t volunteering came out in support of this fund-raiser for breast cancer awareness and women’s health issues. The roping featured some of the best ropers in the country; the Beach Party on Friday and the Fiesta Saturday saw capacity crowds; and the auctions were fantastic.”
In addition to the roping events, Hamilton Healthcare System sponsored a Women’s Wellness Week in the preceding week. More than 250 ladies, as well as several men, participated in the free seminars, spa days, luncheon and mini health fair.
