William Taylor Hammack Jr.
William Taylor Hammack Jr., 82, entered eternal life, May 22, 2008, at Silver City Care Center. Funeral services were held, May 30, at Bright Funeral Home Chapel, with Floyd Robertson officiating. Burial followed at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Hammack was born in 1925 on his dad’s birthday Nov. 17, in Hamilton the son of William Taylor Hammack Sr. and Ocie Ola Johnson Hammack.
Mr. Hammack learned good work ethics while growing up on a farm and attending school at Aleman. He graduated from high school in May 1943, having been named valedictorian of his class. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy in July 1945 and received an honorable discharge in July 1946. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Brantley, Draughon Business College in Fort Worth, where he majored in General Motors accounting. On his 22nd birthday, he married Joyce Marie Baker at Hamilton. They arrived in Silver City on Jan. 4, 1948. He worked as the business manager for Clifton Chevrolet and Busby Motors from Jan. 5 1948, through April 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eldon Hammack; eight brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
Mr. Hammack is survived by his wife of more than 60 years; one daughter, Linda Shirley Madrid and husband, Dickie, of Las Cruces; one son, Ricky Lynn Hammack, and wife, Connie of Silver City; six grandchildren Misty, Marcella, and Richard Madrid and his longtime companion Melissa Ann Rico, all of Las Cruces, Jason Hammack of Oklahoma City, Okla., Alan Hammack of Morenci, Ariz. and David Hammack of Dallas; three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Mariah and Richie Madrid, all of Las Cruces, and an expected great-grand-daughter due in July; one brother, Billy Hammack, and wife, Carolyn of Houston and, numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Richard Madrid, Jason Hammack, Alan Hammack and David Hammack, and very close lifelong friends, Richard Grabbe and Brian Grabbe. Honorary pallbearers were Alexander, Mariah and Richie Madrid.

Otis L. Kunkel
Otis L. Kunkel, 79, died June 12, 2008, at a Mansfield nursing home. Funeral services were held June 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Worth with burial at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Fort Worth.
He was born May 16, 1929, the son of Alfred O. and Alice Kunkel in Hamilton County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from Williamson-Dickie after 40 years of dedicated service.
Mr. Kunkel was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aleman. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran, Mansfield.
Throughout his illness, Mr. Kunkel was truly an inspiration to many. He was a true model to the joy of loving, embracing and living life to the fullest and a blessing to all.
Mr. Kunkel was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Charlene Marie Endebrock Kunkel; his second wife, Willene Ernst Kunkel; and an infant grandson, Bradley Arron Kunkel.
Survivors include his sons, Keith L. Kunkel and wife, Hope, and Kraig L. Kunkel, all of Mansfield; stepdaughter, Teresa Bryant and husband Dennis, and granddaughters, Amy and Heather of Joshua; stepsons, Carey Bayne Ernst and Donald Ray Ernst; his sister, Lynell Martin and husband Johnny, of Waco; and many nieces and nephews.
