John Shadric Register, Jr.
John S. Register, Jr., a native of Hamilton, died at his residence in Concord, CA at the age of 91. A full military funeral service was held at the Golden Gate National Cemetery Chapel in San Bruno, Calif. on Oct.17, with an Air Force Honor Guard, a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps. Mr. Register was dressed in his Air Force “dress blues” with his ribbons, awards, Commendation Medal and his hat, all kept lovingly in perfect condition by his wife. He was buried next to his son and his wife at the Golden Gate National Cemetery.
He was the second child of Shade and Betty (Bullington) Register, graduated from Hamilton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on August 11, 1936 at Randolph Field, where he was in flight training. After re-enlistment, he was transferred to Moffett Field, near the South end of San Francisco Bay. His diary of important events noted he met Virginia Craft in Santa Cruz, CA on April 19, 1940 and they were married exactly one year later on April 19, 1941 in Reno, NV with her parents in attendance.
Prior to WW II he was also stationed at Hamilton Field, CA, Paine Field in Everett, WA, Harding Field in Baton Rouge, LA, Drew Field in Tampa, FL, and Camp Kilmer in NJ. On October 31, 1942 he boarded the USS West Point in New York to join our U.S. forces overseas. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant during WW II in North Africa, Israel and Italy. Postwar, he was stationed in Greenland, Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA, and March AFB near Riverside, CA, where he retired after 20 years of service. He then entered into Civil Service, retiring from the Concord Naval Weapons Station in 1979, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Mr. Register enjoyed playing his guitar, tinkering in his wood shop, anything involving airplanes, and just being with his family. He was a very proud American veteran, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and grandfather.
Mr. Register was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and her parents Ray and Vida Craft of Oakland, as well as his son, Ray Shade Register, who was killed in a car accident in 1967, the night before he was to leave for the Navy. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Archie Joe Register of San Augustine and two brothers-in-law, Dan Wilkerson and Henry Campbell of Hamilton.
Survivors include his children, Glenn Allen Register of Concord, Marylynn and Alan Eisenbarth of McCall, ID, and Gayle Annett and Michael Athey of Concord; three grandchildren, Staci and her husband Brad Thomas of Concord, Alexa Eisenbarth of Long Beach, Calif. and Maegan Eisenbarth of Pittsburg, Kan. and one great-granddaughter, Kendra Thomas of Concord as well as his sisters, Maurine Wilkerson and Betty Sue Fuqua of Hamilton; his sister-in-law Louise Register of Tyler and eight nieces and nephews.
Linda Darlene Jones
Funeral services for Linda Darlene Jones were held on Dec. 4, 2007. They were officiated by Keith Felton at Riley Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Jones was very generous with her time and enjoyed helping others and giving to various charities.
She was an avid collector of rare dolls, stuffed bears, and ornate masks, and she enjoyed filling her home with these things to bring warmth and comfort to not only her husband, but to visitors in their home as well.
Mrs. Jones grew up in Ft. Worth and was a graduate of Paschal High School.
She was married to Ronald E. Jones on May 15, 1969. Their married life took them all over Texas and then to Albuquerque, NM where, in the last seven years, their marriage was rekindled.
Survivors include her husband of more than 38 years Ronald E. Jones; her son Sean; her stepson Ron; three grandchildren and a multitude of family and friends.
