- Mrs. Crosby

Bobbie Jo Whitaker Crosby died on March 20, 2007 following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service were held, March 24, 2007 at Harrell Funeral Home. Burial followed at Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville.
She was born in Hamilton on June 14, 1929, the third child and first daughter of Blanche Johnson Whitaker and Robert Whitaker.
In 1947 Mrs. Crosby graduated from Hamilton High School. An accomplished young woman, she headed to San Marcos, Texas and Southwest Texas State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with teacher certification in Homemaking in 1950.
While attending Hamilton High School she met Ernest L. “Cotton” Crosby. Shortly after her graduation from college, they were married on August 5, 1950 and began their married life together in Austin where they remained.
She was a strong and dedicated woman in everything she pursued. A devout Christian, she made sure her children received instruction in the Christian faith and grew up in a Christian home. She was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend; a caring and giving individual; a fierce supporter and defender of her family.
Because there was a surplus of teachers in Austin when she arrived in 1950, she sought employment elsewhere. She worked in retail, financial services, and with the Internal Revenue Service from which she retired with 28 years of service as a Tax Examiner in 1997.
Never an idle person, Mrs. Crosby was active in her church, her children’s schools, and as a member of the City Council of San Leanna Estates. She loved the outdoors and spent untold hours in her yard with plants, flowers, and vegetable gardens. Each summer would find her serving in some capacity with Vacation Bible School.
As long as her health allowed, she was at the church each Tuesday to assist in preparation of the Manchaca Baptist Church newsletter. She was always ready to prepare a dish, a meal, or just emotional support for anyone during a time of need.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Blanche Whitaker and brothers Eldon Whitaker and Buryl Whitaker.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest L. “Cotton” Crosby; three children, Cathy Boring and husband Travis, Richard Crosby and wife Lisa, Joe Crosby and fiancé Marsha Morgenroth; four grandchildren, Cresta McGowan and husband Jerry, Scott Boring, Jason Crosby, and Cole Crosby; one great grandchild, Curtis “CJ” McGowan; sister Pat Gardner and husband Charles (Toby), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
