Josephine (Josie)) Bubert Landua, 88, died at Forrest Ridge Care Center on Feb. 10, 2007. Funeral services Feb. 13 at Riley Funeral Chapel.
She was born April 14, 1918 in Shive, the daughter of Frank Henry and Rosina (Sammann) Bubert. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shive and a lifelong resident of that community. She was married to Daniel (Dan) Landua on January 1, 1939.
Mrs. Landua was very active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She loved children and taught Sunday school for more than 25 years. Not many got out of her class without knowing the 10 commandments and their meaning. She gave homework, and memory assignments each week. She was also very active in PTA and the community and loved helping anyone in need.
She was a loving, caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked side by side with her husband on the farm, and enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, gardening, and canning and freezing those fruits of her labor. She loved baking desserts and decorating birthday cakes every year for each immediate family member.
Mrs. Landua was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and four brothers: Willie, Henry, Reinhart and Herbert Bubert, and two sisters, Annie Seilheimer and Elsie Seilheimer.
Survivors include one daughter Laurel and her husband Calvin Friedrich of Shive; two granddaughters, Cheryl Saucier and husband David of Austin, Debbie Ballard and husband Franklin of Houston; three great-grandchildren, Brooks and Cameron Ballard and Sydney Saucier; her brother, Arthur Bubert and wife Vivian and nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Elvin Allen and Nelda Henry Allen of Evant both died after 51 years together in marriage.
Mr. Elvin died on Feb. 24, 2007 and his wife followed on Feb. 27.
A funeral service for the Allens was held on March 1 in the Pearl Church of Christ with Bill Wheeless Jr. and Dick Decker officiating. Burial followed in the Hurst Ranch Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born Jan. 22, 1921 in Gouldbusk, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mabry Allen. Mrs. Allen was born Sept. 26, 1924 in Mills County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barton B. Henry.
Before meeting his wife, Mr. Allen served his country in the United States Army Air Corp.
They were married on Sept. 2, 1955 in Winters. They were together in all things they accomplished in their lives. The couple had a loving home and never met a stranger.
Mr. Allen worked as a sound technician for many years before his retirement and Mrs. Allen was a bookkeeper before her own retirement. They were members of the Pearl Church of Christ in Pearl.
Survivors include a daughter, Mitzi Horton and her husband Steve of Longview; a son, Cliff Allen and his wife Sue of Waco; a very special couple, Ruby and Bill Lewis of Lampasas, five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thorp
Arvel Clayton Thorp died Feb. 22, 2007 in the Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton. Funeral Services were held Feb. 24, 2007 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Don Sneed officiating. Burial followed in the Hines Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Hamilton.
Mr. Thorp was born September 18, 1921 in Lampasas County near The Bend to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wilson Thorp. He farmed and ranched in Hamilton County most of his life.
Mr. Thorp Served his country in the United States Army where he was in the Infantry serving in Germany and France in World War II. He was married to Emma Lou Sneed in Burnet, Texas on August 2, 1942.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and two sons, Lewis (Buck) and Jerry Thorp.
Survivors include a son, Daulton Thorp and his wife Sherry of Grand Prairie; a daughter, Loujuana Porter and her husband Larry of Manhatten, Kan. Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Michael
Esta Verleen Weeks Michael, 63, of May and formerly of Evant died Feb. 28, 2007 at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services were held March 3 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Boyce Edwards, Church of Christ minister from Killeen, officiating. Burial followed in the Evant Cemetery.
Mrs. Michael was born March 27, 1943 in Cisco, the daughter of Robert and Mary Penn Sugg and was raised in the Evant community. She attend the Hamilton School of Nursing where she received her LVN license and later attended classes at Howard Payne College. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Little Ricky.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Randy McDaniel of May; a son, Ricky Weeks of Abilene; four brothers, Stanley Suggs and wife Pat of Gatesville, Delbert Sugg and wife Karen of Lampasas, Keith Sugg and wife JoAnn of Gatesville and Steve Sugg and wife Carmen of Evant; a sister, Kathy Edwards and husband Boyce of Killeen; five grandchildren, Samantha, Deric, Ryan, Courtney and Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Quintin, Ashton and Hannah and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rena Rovella Huckaby Chambers, 93, of Burnet and formerly of Evant died March 1, 2007 in Temple. Funeral services were held March 4 at the Burnet Primitive Baptist Church with Brother Mark Richards and Brother Royce Cockrell officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Chambers was born on Dec. 20, 1913 in Mills County, the daughter of Henry Lafayette and Isadora Coreen Carter Huckaby.
She was a rancher, a homemaker and a faithful member of the Burnet Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Jackson Edward Chambers and wife Bonnie of Albuquerque, NM and Elisha Weldon Chambers and wife Charolett of Gatesville; Elijah Eldon Chambers of Brownwood and her daughter, Virginia Dare Halfmann and husband Bobby of Burnet and a brother, Vernon Edward Huckaby of Missouri City as well as 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Slone
J.R. Slone Jr., 85, of Evant died March 1, 2007 at Goldthwaite Senior Health Care Center. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Evant on March 3 with Roy Shave officiating. Burial was at Kingsbury Cemetery.
He was born May 9, 1921 in Buckholts, the son of James Reuben Slone and Hattie Louise Moore.
He was married to Ola Bell Carter on Aug. 22, 1941 at Wilson and they moved to Evant in 1951.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and he worked with Coryell County Maintenance. Mr. Slone served in the Army from 1944-1946.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2004, three brothers, Garland, Earl and James and two sisters, Ora Mae and Opal.
Survivors include his son, James Lee Slone and wife Chyrl of Evant; a daughter, Sandra Florence Blansit and husband Johnny of Goldthwaite; a brother, Vernon Trueitt Slone of Tahoka; grandchildren, Shelly and Lance Wenmoks, James and Misty Slone, Justin Slone, Melissa Blansit, Misty and Clifton Ott; nine great-grandchildren, James Bridgett, Dixon, Kelli, Shayna, Slone, Jace, Jadyn and Coty.
Pallbearers were James Slone, Justin Slone, Tracy Deweese, Lance Wenmoks, Clifton Ott and James Warlick.
Honorary pallbearers were T.A. Muhollam, H.T.Wall and Cricket Wall Miller.

Mrs. Easter
Angeline E. (Angie) Easter died March 2, 2007. Funeral service were held March 6 at Connally/Compton Funeral. Burial followed at Waco Memorial Park.
Mrs. Easter was born on Sept. 25, 1931 in Hamilton, the daughter of Anton and Martha (Jeschke) Sommerfeld.
Mrs. Easter was a faithful, life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed her activities with the Red Hat Society. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who also touched many people in addition to her family. She will be in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and loving husband James Easter.
Survivors include her daughter Penny Zeman and husband Mark; son, Garry Easter; grandchildren Shannon Easter, Courtney Easter, Mason Zeman and Zackery Zeman,; daughter-in –law Marcy Easter, numerous cousins, family members and friends.

Mildred Nichols (Packard) died March 1, 2007 at the Forrest Ridge Care Center in Hamilton. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
She was born Nov. 18, 1916 in Eugene, Ore. She graduated from Corvallis High School and Oregon State College where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
She was married to Ivan Kaye (Ike) Nichols in Singapore in 1939 and they began a life of travel together as her husband pursued his career as a petroleum geologist.
They lived in Sumatra, Nicaragua and New Orleans before settling in Houston in 1945. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Nichols lived in Houston until 1998 when she moved to Hamitlon to be near her son and his family. Due to failing eyesight, she moved to Forrest Ridge in 2003. She was an accomplished seamstress, needle worker and knitter. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and reading.
Survivors include her son, Clifford (Kip) Nichols and his wife Vicki of Hamilton; her daughter, Nancy Mackler of Saxtons River, Vt., three grandsons, Clifford Nichols of Dallas, Derek Nichols of Rio Vista and Keith Mackler of Saxtons River, Vt. and a great-granddaughter, Ava Rose Nichols of Dallas; her brother, Dr. Martin Packard of Los Altos Hills, Calif., her niece, Dr. Jane Packard of College Station and her nephew George Packard of Warner, N.H.

Joanna Bivion “Bunny” Purcell, of Hamilton, died March 4, 2007 at her home. Funeral services were set for March 7 at 2 p.m. in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Felton officiating and burial in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Purcell was born July 24, 1922 in Lampasas County near Adamsville, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clint and Jessie Taylor West.
She worked as a clerk in a dress shop for many years and was very active in the community. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star in Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband O.B. Nettleton who passed away in WWII, her son Cliff Purcell, and husband Walter Purcell.
