Texas Football picks
Dogs at fourth place
-
When Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine hit the news stands last week, football fans all over the state were ea-gerly waiting to see how their teams faired in the rankings. The magazine has the Bulldogs picked right in the middle of the newly realigned District 16-2A.
In the extremely tough ap-pearing eight-team district, Texas Football picks Hamilton at fourth. McGregor is ranked as the district first place fin-isher, followed by Troy, Craw-ford, Hamilton, Hico, Clifton Bruceville-Eddy and Moody.
Five of the eight teams in this district made the state playoffs last year – Hamilton, Troy, Hico, Crawford and McGregor – and all five of the schools are teams that are ac-customed to making the play-offs. At least two are sure to be disappointed and the other three teams are sure to be planning on having their say as well.
This year the Bulldogs will have a new head coach at the helm, David Wright. However, Wright, a Hamilton native, is a long-time coach here and has been serving as offensive coor-dinator. He replaces Chris Wilde who resigned this spring to accepted a position at 4A Saginaw.
According to Texas Foot-ball, players to watch are RB Garet Box (5-8, 165, 4.6), FB Mason Burke (6-0, 220, 4.9), OL Ryan Lee (6-6, 265, 5.3), OL Sheldon Coble (5-10, 170, 5.0), LB Truman Baize (6-1, 185, 4.7), QB Keaton Muxwor-thy (6-2, 190) K Abisue Lozano (5-6, 150) and DL Acy May (6-3, 295).
The magazine also lists LB Ethan Brown, FB Jackson Bes-hears, DE Zach Angliln, P Keith Gardner and LB Jared Massingill as other prospects.
Bulldog fans will get their first glimpse of this year’s Bulldogs on Aug. 16 at a scrimmage in Hamilton against Axtell. Their second scrimmage will be in Cisco on Aug. 29 and the regular season will open on Aug. 29 against Comanche. The other two pre-district tilts will be against Goldthwaite and Bangs.
After an open date, district action starts for the Bulldogs on Sept. 26 at home against Moody. They then travel to Clifton, host Troy, go to McGregor, are back home against Bruceville-Eddy, go to Crawford and conclude the district play at home against Hico.
