The Bulldogs picked up an exciting district win last Tuesday in Hamilton over Moody, 8-7, but then fell to McGregor on Friday on the road, 8-1.
Against the Moody Bearcats, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning. However, the Bearcats went ahead with two runs in their side of the third inning. Their lead was short lived, as the Bulldogs tied the game at two with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The lead continued to go back and forth. Moody added three run in the fourth, but the Dogs countered with four runs in the fifth. The Bearcats added one more in the sixth, but the Dogs crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the inning, which proved to be the deciding runs. Moody scored once more in the seventh inning, but came up just short.
Garet Box was the winning pitcher for the Dogs.
The Bulldogs out hit the Bearcats nine to eight and had two errors to Moody’s four.
At the plate for Hamilton were: Truman Baize 3-4 (2 2Bs, 4 RBI), Seth LeBlanc 2-3 (2 runs), Jorden Lowe 1-3 (2 runs), Keaton Muxworthy 1-4 (2 RBIs), Sheldon Coble 1-2 and Jordan Ratliff 1-2 (2B, 2 RBIs).
The Hamilton nine managed only one hit against their rival Bulldogs in McGregor Friday. However, Hamilton’s trio of Baize, Box and Sherod Townsend combined to strike out nine batters and hold McGregor to only three hits.
McGregor scored two runs in the first inning, four in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth, while Hamilton lone run came in the seventh.
Muxworthy had Hamilton’s only hit in the game.
The Bulldogs were to have only one game this week because of the district track meet on Friday. Hamilton was scheduled to host Bruceville-Eddy on Tuesday. Hamilton will host Crawford next Tuesday.
