close district contest
After being down by as many as 19 points, the Bulldogs fought back in the second half against Moody, to close to within one point at the final buzzer. Coach Howard Cox said after the Friday game, “The Bulldogs outplayed the Bearcats in every way in the second half. I am proud to be associated with such a hard working group of young men.” Hamilton trailed 8-12 at the end of the first quarter and 17-29 at the half. But the Bulldogs came back in the third period with a 16-8 scoring advantage to cut the Bearcat lead to 37-33 going into the final period of play. Hamilton outscored Moody 10-7 in the fourth quarter, but came up just short of the victory. Mason Burke and James Ratliff were both in double figures for the Bulldogs with 17 and 14 points respectively. Aaron Lewallen added five points, Jorden Lowe four points, Keaton Muxworthy two and Jared Massingill one. Coach Cox said about the loss in Clifton, “The Dogs played well, but started slow and finished strong – which should benefit us the next time we face the Cubs.” Hamilton fell behind 11-16 in the first quarter. Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter with Clifton having a four to two scoring advantage. Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, and the Cubs had a one-point advantage in the fourth, 12-11. For Hamilton, John Galindo scored eight, Burke six, Lowe, James Ratliff and Lewallen each had five and Truman Baize added two. The Dogs were to play Bruceville-Eddy on Tuesday of this week in Hamilton and then travel to McGregor on Friday to finish the first round of district play. They will start the second round next Tuesday at home against Crawford. |
