Bulldogs open season
with win over Moody

RUNNERS – Several Hamilton runners competed in the AT&T Austin Marathon on Feb. 17. Will Hale (center) completed the full marathon in three hours, 36 minutes. - The Bulldogs began their 2008 baseball season last week with a busy three-day schedule. On Thursday they split games in the Moody Tournament, defeating Moody 7-4 and losing to Bentwood Christian from Austin 2-9. On Friday they traveled to Bangs and lost to the Dragons 1-11, before returning to Moody to finish tournament play with a 2-5 loss to Grandview on Saturday.
In the season-opening win Thursday over Moody, the Bulldogs had two big offensive innings. After falling behind 0-1 in the first inning, Hamilton crossed the plate four times in the second to go ahead 4-1. Moody added one run in the third and two in the fourth, but Hamilton answered with three in the fourth to secure the win.
Hamilton out hit the Bearcats seven to four and only had one error.
At the plate for Hamilton were: Seth LeBlanc 1-2, Truman Baize 1-3, Sherod Townsend 1-3, Keaton Muxworthy 1-3, Sheldon Coble 1-2, Jared Massingill 1-1 and James Ratliff 1-1.
In the next tournament game, the Dogs gave up three runs to Bentwood Christian in the first inning and trailed throughout the contest. Hamilton’s two runs came in the third inning.
Baize was 1-2 at the plate with a double and Jorden Lowe was 1-1.
In Bangs on Friday, neither team scored in the first inning, but the Dragons exploded for five in the second and added three in both the third and fourth innings
Ethan Cathey had Ham-ilton’s only hit in the game.
The Bulldogs had a better performance when they returned to tournament play Saturday in Moody. Hamilton had only two errors in the game and had five hits.
However, the Zebras used six hits to post two runs in the first inning and three in the fourth. Both of Hamilton’s runs came in the sixth, as the Bulldogs tried to rally for a come-from-behind win.
Baize was 2-3 at the plate, as was Muxworthy. Lowe was 1-2.
The Dogs will continue a busy schedule this week. On Tuesday they were to play in Gorman and they will be in the Early Tournament Thursday and Saturday.
