- The Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team claimed a huge 52-44 win on the road in Crawford last Friday night to grab sole possession of second place in the district race.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-1 in district play, behind only McGregor with a perfect 3-0 record. Bruceville-Eddy is also 2-1, but the Lady Bulldogs have already defeated them in their district opener.
The Hamilton girls will finish the first round of district this week in Clifton on Tuesday and back home Friday against Moody. The Hamilton girls are poised to finish the first half of the district race in great shape to make a playoff bid for first-year H.H.S. coach Kelly Jo Sexton.
The Hamilton girls got off to a strong start in the first quarter in Crawford, outscoring the Lady Pirates 17-10. The Lady Pirates cut into the Hamilton lead in the second quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs still led 23-20 at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs started the fourth quarter with a tenuous two point lead, 33-31, but then finished with an offensive fireworks show, scoring 19 points to Crawford 13 in the final period.
The Lady Bulldogs claimed the important victory despite missing one of their usual starters. Jordan Box missed the game because of the flu.
Chasey Senger led the Hamilton offense with 24 points, including 11 field goals and two free shots. Doxie Thompson was also in double figures for Hamilton with 12 points. Riley Burks had eights points, Angel Banda four and Christlyn Chapman and Sonal Patel had two points each.
The Hamilton girls suffered their only district loss on Tuesday night in Hamilton to McGregor, 24-64.
The tall and talented McGregor girls dominated play through the first three quarters of play, but Hamilton finally found their rhythm in the fourth quarter when both teams scored 14.
Box and Burks each had six points for Hamilton, Senger and Patel had four and Nicole Wenzel and Thompson had two.
