Dogs fall in district opener
“The Dogs played a sluggish third quarter,” said Coach Howard Cox, “which turned out to be the difference in the game. Hamilton was outscored 13-9 in the first quarter, 14-5 in the second and 13-2 in the third, but came back strong in the final period with a 14-1 scoring advantage over the Pirates. “The Pirates controlled the paint early, but the Dogs dominated in the fourth quarter,” said Coach Cox. “Which should give them confidence down the stretch.” Jorden Lowe led the Bulldogs with nine points. Truman Baize was right behind with eight and James Ratliff had seven and Mason Burke six. The Bulldogs were to travel to Clifton on Tuesday of this week, but then have back-to-back home game against Moody on Friday and Bruceville-Eddy next Tuesday. In their final pre-district game on Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Johnson City, the Bulldogs won 47-42. After trailing 9-16 at the end of the first quarter, the Dogs outscored their opponents 13-7 in the second to take a 22-17 halftime lead. Hamilton led 28-25 going into the final period of play and put the game away with a 19-11 fourth quarter advantage. Coach Cox said after the game, “The Bulldogs are doing a much better job of controlling the turnovers. The Dogs came out and Mason Burke dominated the post. The Dogs are playing well as a team and are gearing up to make a playoff run. John Galindo scored 16 points against Johnson City and Burke had 15. Lowe added four, Keaton Muxworthy three and Truman Baize, Jordan Ernstes, James Ratliff and Aaron Lewallen all had two. |
