Hamilton girls lose JV
championship in overtime

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT - The Hamilton Lady Bulldogs were runners-up in the Hamilton Invitational Tournament this past weekend. After losing a tough overtime game to Hico, the Lady Bulldogs exacted some revenge on Comanche in their second game of the tournament. Because they played great defense and held Comanche to just 42 points and Hico to only 50 points in overtime, the Lady Bulldogs had the lowest cumulative points allowed in pool play to put them in the championship game. In the championship game, they had one of their coldest shooting nights of the season and could not beat Burnet, the only 4A team in the tournament. Chasey Senger was selected to the all tournament team.
- The Lady Bulldog junior varsity black team had a successful but bittersweet week.
“We had three quality wins and one very tight overtime loss,” said Coach Linda Brigham. “The one loss came against 4A Burnet in the championship game of the Hamilton JV Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs lost the championship game by only one point, 39-40.
“It was a difficult loss because twice we had the game won and all we had to do was to run out the clock, but our youthfulness got the best of us,” continued Brigham. “We still had a chance at the end of the game; the girls ran the inbounds correctly; we got of a shot, but it didn’t go in and we didn’t get a call.
“So you learn your lessons, be proud of what you accomplished and go on to the next game,” concluded Coach Brigham.
Scoring for Hamilton were Paige Owen 12, Megan Massingill 11, Shelby Pardy seven, Brenna Payne five and Natalie DeMasters four.
The Lady Bulldogs began the tournament with a 45-23 win over Hico and then defeated Comanche 36-25.
Against Hico, Owen scored 14, Massingill nine, Pardy, Danielle Boothe and DeMasters six and Caitlyn Bedwell and Alex English two.
In the win over Comanche, Pardy led the team with 13, DeMasters and Owen had eight, Massingill and Boothe three and Payne one.
In a game on Tuesday in Grandview, the JV black team defeated the Lady Zebras 41-21.
Boothe and Massingill each had 10 points, DeMasters nine, Pardy and Sarah Pearce four and Payne and English two.
