Lady Bulldogs compete
in Academy Tournament

- The Lady Bulldogs won their opener in the Academy Invitational Basketball Tournament last week over Thrall, 39-35, but then fell to Academy, 35-51, and to St. Michael’s, 48-55, to finish out of the tournament honors. The loss Saturday to St. Michael’s was for third place.
In the tournament open with Thrall, the Lady Bulldogs got out to a 10-7 first quarter lead, but went to the lockers at half time tied at 16. Hamilton regained the lead in the third quarter with 11 points to Thrall’s seven, but then had to hang on in the fourth period, as Thrall had an 12-10 scoring advantage to threaten the Hamilton lead.
Chasey Senger had the hot hand for the Lady Bulldogs, sinking 16 points. Sonal Patel added eight, Christlyn Chapman had seven, Jordan Box six and Riley Burks two.
In the Lady Bulldogs’ second game of the tournament, they fell behind early to Academy, 8-13 at the end of the first quarter, and were never able to seriously question their hosts’ lead. Academy took a 31-17 lead to the half. The Hamilton girls had their only scoring advantage in the third quarter, 10-7. The Lady Bumblebees out scored Ham-ilton 13-8 in the fourth for the 51-35 victory.
Senger again led the Hamilton offense with 10 points. Box had six, Chapman, Patel and Burks five and Wenzel and Ari Cavitt two.
The loss to St. Michael’s for third place was actually closer for most of the game than the final score might indicate. Hamilton trailed 11-15 at the end of the first quarter, but then held St. Michael’s to only four points in the second quarter and went to half time leading 23-19. St. Michael’s came back out in the second half to outscore Hamilton 14-9 in the third quarter and 22-16 in the fourth.
Senger and Burks were both in double figures for Hamilton with 14 and 12 points respectively. Chapman added nine, Patel six, Box four and Cavitt three.
On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Comanche and lost to the Maidens36-46.
Hamilton trailed by only one at the end of the first quarter, 8-9, but were behind 16-28 at the half. In a slow third period, Hamilton scored six points and Comanche four. In the fourth, both teams posted 14 points on the board.
Senger and Box shared high-point honors for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points each. Burks contributed seven, Patel six, Chapman three and Cavitt two.
