Bulldogs to open district
in Bruceville-Eddy Friday

SEASON OPENER - The Hamilton Bulldogs will play Bruceville-Eddy Friday in their District 21-2A opener.
- The Bulldog varsity football team will begin District 21-2A competition this Friday in Bruceville-Eddy against the Eagles. Bruceville-Eddy is located on I-35 between Temple and Waco. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs are coming off a very successful 4-1 pre-district campaign, while the Eagles were 2-3.
A 4-6 team last year with 17 lettermen returning, the Eagles were expected to be a much-improved team this season. However, so far their results have not necessarily shown that. The Eagles have lost games to Thrall, 3-9, Blooming Grove 14-36 and Melissa, 6-42. Their two wins were over Dawson 20-12 and Oakwood 50-7.
But most coaches view pre-district games as tune-ups and Bruceville-Eddy is certainly looking at this Friday’s game as the start of the real season.
While Hamilton coaches can look at their pre-district results with satisfaction, they also know that the games that count start now.
In pre-season, Dave Camp-bell’s Texas Football magazine picked McGregor to win District 21-2A with Crawford in second and Hamilton in third followed by Clifton, Bruce-ville-Eddy and Moody.
While pre-district results would tend to support the prediction of which three teams make the playoffs, there would seem to be some question about the order. Crawford joins Hamilton with a 4-1 record and McGregor is right behind at 3-2. Clifton and Moody are both 1-4. All indications are that fans should be in for an exciting few weeks as the teams work out the pecking order. No doubt, Bruceville-Eddy, Clifton and Moody all believe they can prove Texas Football wrong and find a place in the top three spots.
But the Bulldogs first order of business will be this Friday in Bruceville-Eddy, a team they cannot afford to overlook. Last season the Dogs opened district play with a 58-14 thumping of the Eagles. The Dogs would love a repeat performance, but a victory by any margin will be acceptable.
While the Bulldogs are hopefully taking care of busi-ness in Bruceville-Eddy, Mc-Gregor will be hosting Craw-ford in what should be the game-of-the-week for the district. Moody will also be hosting Clifton in the other district match-up.
The Harris Rating System picks Crawford over McGregor by 7, Clifton over Moody by 17 and Hamilton over Bruceville-Eddy by 25.
On Thursday the Hamilton Junior Varsity will host Bruceville-Eddy at Kooken Field starting at 6 p.m. The Bulldog junior high teams will travel to Bruceville-Eddy with the seventh grade game starting at 5 p.m.
After this Friday, the varsity will continue its district schedule hosting McGregor on Oct. 19, traveling to Crawford on Oct. 26 and to Clifton on Nov. 2 and then finish-up at home against Moody on Nov. 9
