HCYAA begins 2007 season
season with training clinics

- The underlying theme for the 2007 fall season of HCYAA sports seems to be education and the byword is “clinics.” Under the leadership of three new officers, all affili-ated with the Hamilton ISD, this is probably not a coinci-dence.
Helping HCYAA kick off the fall season, CEFCO Con-venience Stores are sponsoring a FIFA Rules Clinic (for soc-cer) to be held Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. until noon at Hamilton High School. This clinic will be taught by ex-Hamilton High students who currently play for Tarleton and also have their own adult level soccer club team.
Following the soccer clinic, at 1 p.m., Danny Lopez and other members of HCYAA football will hold their Rules and Regulations Clinic at the same location.
Attendance at one or both of these clinics is strongly encour-aged for anyone interested in the opportunity to work with our youth through soccer and football. Individuals who do not attend will only be allowed to referee or coach with board approval.
To offset the later start of the school year, HCYAA will have public registration for soccer, pad football, flag foot-ball and cheerleading. This will be held on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. until noon at CEFCO 66 lo-cated at 312 N. Rice in Hamil-ton.
The next great HCYAA event will be a Skills Clinic and Registration for soccer and football players on Aug. 18. These clinics will be held on their respective fields at Pecan Creek Park. CEFCO Conven-ience Stores will be providing drinks and the students from Tarleton will be returning to assist with the soccer clinic. Time slots will be assigned by age groups, so please watch the paper for an upcoming schedule on this.
We wrap up our pre-season month with a soccer registra-tion deadline of Aug. 25. This is prior to the first day of school, so please be sure to take advantage of the public regis-trations and clinics. Fields will be prepped Labor Day weekend and soccer games will begin on Sept. 8.
HCYAA Board is comprised of a small group of dedicated volunteers. However, there are many ways to be a part of this great organization whose mis-sion is to “provide an equal opportunity for the youth of Hamilton County…while en-couraging good sportsmanship, team play and respect.”
To offer assistance or dona-tions for the fall season, please contact Audry Perry at 254-721-7698 regarding soccer or Danny Lopez at 254-386-7684 regarding flag and pad football.
