“We had an outstanding turnout,” said fifth-grade teacher Tina Dittrich, president of HOPE for Kids. “Ann Whitney Elementary has 387 students enrolled. We had 336 students attend the Back to School Event picking up their supplies and back-packs.” “It was probably one of the best days as far as the elemen-tary school goes,” agreed Prin-cipal Jennifer Zschiesche. “I think the next best day will be when they bring their supplies to school, and they can all be proud to have everything they need! “What a great service to our kids. This community is in-credible!” Saturday’s event also in-cluded free hearing, vision, dental and scoliosis screenings as well as the opportunity to register for scouting and sports programs. To put into perspective just how many school supplies the community of Hamilton pro-vided for the students, the HOPE for Kids crew put to-gether these totals of what was donated: 2108 pocket folders with brads, 188 glue sticks, 584 boxes of Kleenex, 160 gallon bags, 226 quart bags, 30 resting mats, 440 backpacks, 143 wa-tercolor paints, 15 packages of Play-Doh, 448 bottles of glue, 3,900 pencils, 192 boxes of map colors, 192 boxes of 8- count crayons, 262 boxes of 24- count crayons, 64 boxes of 8- count markers; 320 black dry- erase markers, 192 highlighters, 64 red pens, 320 spiral note-books, 144 packages of con-struction paper and 3000 sheets of manila paper. Also, 384 pink erasers, 256 school boxes, 64 zipper pencil pouches, 192 scissors, 144 baby wipes, 128 2-inch binders, 64 zipper binders, 184 packages of notebook paper, 134 packages of index cards, 128 boxes for cards, 192 packages of 8 sub-ject dividers and 128 pencil sharpeners with covers. |
