Shaffer completes
early basic training

Nathan Shaffer
- Nathan “Nate” Shaffer, son of Ken and Susan Shaffer of Hamilton, has completed Army basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Shaffer, who enlisted on a split option, completed basic this summer before his senior year at Hamilton High School. He will train one weekend each month with the Army Reserves during his last year of high school, then enter advanced individual training specialty training next summer after graduation, before going to college in the fall.
Shaffer’s basic training in-cluded core values, physical fitness, basic rifle marksman-ship, tactical foot march, field training, confidence and obsta-cle course, as well as automatic weapons, hand grenades and 10K and 15K tactical foot march.
After college, he will pursue a military career.
Shaffer said it was hard be-ing away from home for 10 weeks, and his favorite time of the day was mail-call in the
evenings. He is very apprecia-tive of all of the letters and prayers from his family, friends and church and the support of his community.
