Storm warning sirens
back in working order

SOIL PREP - Candy Thompson, left, and June Hivnor, right, both Master Gardener interns, prepare soil with Certified Master Gardener Chloe Hansard, center, with rake, hoe and tiller. Their work on the native plants section is part of the Cemonstration Garden project of Hamilton County's Master Gardeners at Pecan Creek Park's gazebo.
- The next time a dark cloud appears on the horizon, Hamilton residents can rest a little easier knowing that all three storm warning sirens are now back in working order. Hamilton City Administrator Bill Funderburk said last Friday all three sirens performed during the weekly testing.
The sirens, as well as the emergency broadcasting for local television, are tested each Friday at noon by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
During testing several weeks ago, it was discovered that two of the three warning sirens did not sound. The only one that operated properly was the one located at Horton Park in east Hamilton. The other two are located near the football field and in far north Hamilton just off of Highway 281.
At one of the sirens, the batteries failed, and at the other, the battery charger quit working.
Funderburk said he is very relieved to know the sirens are back in working order.
The sirens may be activated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department in the case of an approaching severe weather threat or other emergency situation.
