HISTORIC BRIDGE- This old bridge was transported Monday morning to the Pecan Creek Recreation Park in Hamilton. The bridge, which crossed Mesquite Creek on County Road 617 north of Pottsville, is being replaced. This is in Commissioner Jim Boatwright’s Precinct 1. Boatwright said he is glad the bridge will be preserved for the sake of history and be in a location where the public can appreciate it. The bridge was transported to the park by Jimmy Sommerfeld. P&S Masonry helped unload it at the park. The Bulman Bridge, which crossed the Leon River east of Hamilton, was moved to the park last fall and will eventually be placed over Pecan Creek as part of a Texas Department of Transportation project. Calvin Friedrich, was recently appointed to a special task force representing agricultural and rural interests on issues relating to the Trans-Texas Corridor. The appointment was made by Hamilton County Farm Bureau president, Rusty Harris.
“We need as many people as possible working to send a clear message across Texas,” said Harris. That message is that the current concept of the Trans Texas Corridor is seriously flawed.”
The appointment came at the request of Texas Farm Bureau President Kenneth Dierschke, who is asking every County Farm Bureau across the state to appoint at least one Farm Bureau leader to this special task force.
“Friedrich will be an important part of the Texas Farm Bureau's response to issues involving the Trans-Texas Corridor,” said Hamilton County FB president Friedrich.
Friedrich will be the Hamilton County Farm Bureau’s “go to” person on TTC issues. Members of the task force may be called on to attend meetings or hearings called by the Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Department of Transportation, or other entities. Members of the task force may testify at public hearings.
“With the expanding population of our state, roads must be built and expanded," Harris said. “How are we going to pay for it all? We need to consider how we'll meet our transportation challenge and that will affect all Texans,” said Harris.
