Girls win regional track

REGIONAL CHAMPIONS- The Lady Bulldog track team won the team championship at the Region II Track Meet in Stephenville last weekend. It is possibly the first team track regional championship in school history, and certainly the first in at least 40 years. The team members will be advancing to state in Austin on May 9-10. Amber Weems won both the 3200 and 1600-meter runs, Doxie Thompson took first in both hurdle events and Chasey Senger advanced with a second place finish in the long jump. - The Lady Bulldog track team won the Region II team championship at the regional meet held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville last Friday and Saturday. The Hamilton girls scored 68 points to claim the title and will advance three team members to the state meet in Austin, Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10.
This was the first Hamilton track team to win a regional team championship in at least the past 40 years, and possibly the first in the school’s history.
Two Hamilton girls will advance in two events. Doxie Thompson won first in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and Amber Weems captured gold in both distance events, the 3200-meters and 1600-meters.
Thompson won the 100-hurdles in 15.80 and the 300 in 46.35.
Weems won the 1600-meters by a full five seconds, posting a time of 5:20.32. Shoush Payton was second in 5:25.95. She had an even more comfortable lead in the 3200-meters. She finished in 11:36.18 and Zoe Coulson of Brock was second in 11:51.62.
Chasey Senger will also be advancing in the long jump, with a second place finish. The top two finishers in each event advances to state. Senger had a jump of 17’8.75”. Tara Towns of Dublin won the event with a leap of 18’6.75”.
The Hamilton 1600-meter relay team narrowly missed an invitation, with a third place finish in the final event of the meet. Angel Banda, Tiffani Headley, Sonal Patel and Thompson completed the four laps in 4:05.68, behind Aubrey in 4:05.21 and Witchita Falls City View in 4:04.04.
The 800-meter relay team was fourth in 1:48.05. Nikki Owen, Paige Owen, Banda and Senger carried the baton. Aubrey won the race in 1:45.52.
Also competing in the regional meet for the Hamilton girls but not breaking into the top six to score points were Headley in the 800-meters (2:35), Natalie DeMasters in the high jump (4’8”) and Melody Parrett in the shot put (32’4”).
The Hamilton boys also had a good showing at the regional meet, but only James Ratliff will be advancing to state. He will advance in the 300-meter hurdles after winning the regional title in 38.99. He finished ahead of Brock Harris in second at 39.14. James’ brother Jordan Ratliff also made the finals in the 300-hurdles and finished eighth in 41.96.
James came in third in the 110-meter hurdles in a very close finish. Harris crossed the finish line first in 14.37, followed by Westin Williams of Hico in 14.38. Ratliff was neck-and-neck with them at 14.40.
Richard Sepolio also added a point for the Bulldog boys with a sixth place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:03.99. Coleby Borchardt of Krum won the race in 1:57.13. Sepolio also ran in the 400-meter dash (54.27), but did not make the finals.
The Bulldog’s sprint relay team ran a 43.79 and finished seventh. Carrying the baton were Jorden Lowe, Garet Box, Asa Hamilton and James Ratliff.
The Bulldogs also placed seventh in the 800-meter relay in 1:31.54. Lowe, Keaton Muxworthy, Box and A. Hamilton ran legs on this relay.
Mason Burke was the only Hamilton boy to compete at the regional meet in field events. He threw the shot put 42’08”, which was 14th best out of a field of 22.
