Hamilton High School’s One Act Play cast and crew will advance to area competition this Saturday in Waxahachie.
They competed in Hamilton last Thursday against schools from McGregor, Bruceville Eddy, Crawford, Clifton and Moody.
Hamilton, with their performance of You Can’t Take It With You, and Clifton with their presentation of Ruthless were the schools chosen to advance. Crawford performed The Wizard of Oz and was selected as alternate.
Dr. Cynthia SoRelle of MCC in Waco was the judge for the competition. She selected several Hamilton students for honors including T.J. Stroud and Zach Anglin for “All Star Cast,” Ryan Lee and Rachel Bottlinger for “Honorable Mention All Star Cast” and Marissa DeLeon as “Outstanding Crew Member.”
Dr. SoRelle complimented entrances and exits executed by Stroud and Anglin as well as Asa Hamilton’s diction and Paul Tober’s Russian accent. The judge also commented that Bree Lester did a good job of conducting the intricate game sequence in the play. She said Rachel Bottlinger was sweet as the “normal” daughter and that Lee used his size to give a nice portrayal of Grandpa Vanderhof. The judge also complimented the technical aspects of the play provided by Whitley Quigg and Garrett Brooks.
The area contest will be held this Saturday, April 5 in the Black Box Theatre at Waxahachie High School. Contest performances will begin at 2 p.m. and run back to back with no intermission. The first school to perform will be Grandview, followed by Mildred, Rice, Hico, Clifton and Hamilton. General admission is $5 and $3 for students.
Directors of Hamilton’s One Act Play for are Brenda Edins and Dick Hamilton. HHS has performed You Can’t Take It With You in the past, with great success. If the play is one of the top two selected at the Area contest, they will advance to Regional competition in Stephenville next week.
