LOCKS OF LOVE – Carlee Lopez recently donated her 14-inch ponytail to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Carlee had been asking for a haircut for several years, but her parents convinced her that she should not cut it until she turned 10 years old. Although her parents, Tim and Tarifa, were reluctant to see their daughter’s ten-year growth clipped off, they were convinced that it was for a good cause and her father recently cut his daughter’s hair, leaving her with a big smile and a beautiful new hair style.

The intersection of Bell and Crews streets south of the Hamilton square will be closed beginning the early part of next week for contractors to perform drainage work and paving, according to City Administrator Bill Funderburk. Funderburk said the intersection is expected to be closed for a minimum of seven days.
The remainder of S. Bell Avenue was paved last year, but the one block was skipped until the drainage work could be completed. Leading onto the south side of the square, Bell is heavily traveled.
