Hamilton County Hospital District Board members heard a very favorable audit report during last week’s regular session.
Kneeley Lawdermilk, CPA, of Parrish, Moody and Fikes reviewed the financial and statistical performance and had only compliments for the past year’s performance, pointing out that was not the case for many rural hospitals. The audit for the District shows a good balance of expense and income, attention to cost control and low reliance on tax support for charity care and ambulance service.
Patient revenues for 2007 were $28,689,617 with contractual adjustments for Medicaid, Medicare and other insurance of $14,830,781 for net patient revenue of $13,858,836.
The District continues to show good control of personnel costs and bad debt and has a good mix of inpatient and outpatient business, she said, noting that in the past year there has been a domination shift from inpatient to outpatient service revenues.
Lawdermilk said that she had no reportable conditions in the audit.
“The Board was pleased with the audit report,” said Board President Neil Muxworthy. “It indicates that Hamilton General Hospital is on a solid financial foundation.”
In other business, the Board called an election for May 10 to fill Precinct 2, Precinct 4 and one At-large position, and approved the financial report for January.
Chief Financial Officer Michele Cathey reported January revenues of $3.1 million, adjustments of $1,970,799 for a net patient revenue of $1,190,141 and total operating revenue of $1,267,681. Expenses for the month were $1,188,106, resulting in a net income of $102,833. She also reported that there were 156 hospital admissions; average daily census of 16; 2,360 clinic visits, up 39% from a year ago; and 466 emergency room visits, a 20% increase over last year.
