Thursday's Internet Edition, March 11, 2010. with arrival of cold front
The rain began around 3:30 a.m. Lightening and thunder accompanied announced the fronts approach. Winds, which had blown strongly out of the south all day Sunday, quickly shifted from the north and temperatures plunged. After highs reaching near 80 over the weekend, thermo-meters dropped into the 30s during the day Monday with brisk winds continuing. Some snow flurries and freezing rain occurred Monday night, but there was no accumulation. However, in neighboring communities as close as Comanche, Dublin and Stephenville, the ground was reported to be covered in white. Every drop of moisture that fell was especially appreciated by area volunteer fire fighters who have been very busy through the first part of the year. Dry weather and frequent high winds have combined to create extreme fire dangers. A county-wide burn ban con-tinued to be enforced. Forecasters predicted more chances of rain later in the week with the arrival of another cold front Wednesday into Thursday. The highs Thursday were expected to remain in the 40s, but then warm up going into the weekend. |
