Sheriff Randy Murphree announced Monday that a missing campaign bull and trailer had been recovered. The bull and trailer belong to Billy Hollingsworth, a candidate for Hamilton County Sheriff. Hollingsworth has used the enormous red and white Hereford bull as a campaign promotion around Hamilton County for the past several months.
Murphree said that a citizen called to report seeing the missing bull parked in a wheat field off of County Road 113 in north Hamilton County on Saturday. Hamilton County deputies responded to the location and recovered the bull.
Murphree said the inves-tigation is continuing. He also said he would like to thank citizens for being alert and reporting the missing trailer and bull.
Hollingsworth had reported the bull and trailer missing on Wednesday morning. The missing bull made news coverage last week on television stations in the Fort Worth-Dallas and Waco areas.
In a press release, Hollings-worth reported that Lena Boatwright “spotted the big red bull standing in the middle of a big wheat field.” Hollingsworth said that Boatwright had driven by the field on Friday and the bull was not there. However, she discovered it there about 4 p.m. Saturday.
Hollingsworth stated that he presented the $500 he had offered as a reward for the bull’s recovery to Boatwright.
