Barbecue lunch Saturday
at Jayson Harris Pavilion

YOU’VE GOT THE CUTEST LITTLE BABY FACE- These owls were hatched in a nest in a deer blind at Cowhouse Creek Ranch south of Hamilton. Sandy Thomas emailed us this picture last week. She and several friends have enjoyed taking pictures and watching as the young owls have grown. They placed a tree branch in the stand extending out the window to give the young birds an opportunity to practice flying. Four of seven eggs in the nest hatched. “It was an awesome experience to watch this ‘blessing of nature – birthing,’” wrote Thomas.
- The Hamilton Band Boosters invite everyone in the community to a fundraising barbecue lunch this Saturday at the Jayson Harris Pavilion. The barbecue will be prepared by award-winning cooks from across Texas and served with all the trimmings by Hamilton band students from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“Not only will we be serving the community some of the best barbecue in the state of Texas, but each plate will also have a generous helping of sausage, beans, potato salad, dessert and tea,” said HHS Band Director Tim Edins.
This year there will be a drive-through window and a call-ahead number for those who would like to pick up their barbecue lunch from the comfort of their car. The call-in number is 254-485-4173, and orders will be accepted between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The drive-through window will be clearly marked.
Tickets for the lunch will be $8 for adults and $5 for children and are available for purchase from any band student, at the Hamilton Herald-News office or at the door.
Cookers will begin arriving this Friday, Aug. 1, with check-in from 5-7 p.m. Judging and the annual barbecue lunch will be on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Categories for the event will be ˝ chicken, pork spare ribs, brisket and jackpot beans and Dutch oven desserts. Entry fee is $50 for one or all meat categories and a cooked brisket. There is an additional $10 fee for jackpot beans and Dutch oven desserts.
Band members will meet Friday morning at the band hall to go over work assignments for the barbecue. Each member will be responsible for providing a dessert, which should be delivered to the pavilion Saturday morning before 11 a.m.
Band Boosters also need donations of seasoned mesquite, oak and pecan wood for the event. Anyone who would like to donate wood is asked to drop it off near the pavilion.
