Old Settlers’ Reunion
this week in Hico

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
- The 122nd Old Settlers’ Re-union is up and running this week in Hico and will continue through Saturday. Started in 1882, the Reunion is touted as the oldest of its kind in Texas. With the exception of four years during World War II, the reunion has been held each year since.
This year’s reunion began on Tuesday night with the Citi-zen of the Year Banquet. It was to continue on Wednesday with the Miss Hico Pageant at the Hico City Park and the opening of the E and B Fun Times Car-nival complete with rides, booths and food.
Activities will shift to down-town Hico Thursday with the annual parade starting at 7 p.m. The carnival will be open each night in the park. Also on Thursday, the D.W. Blues Band will provide live entertainment at the pavilion in the park start-ing at 8:30 p.m.
Activities continue in the park on Friday night with the talent show.
There will be more activities downtown on Saturday with a special photographic and narra-tive exhibit, “A Retrospective of Hico,” on the second story of the Blue Star Home. The ex-hibit will focus on the 1880s to the 1920s. It opens at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Durwood Strube and Texas Best! will play for the Saturday night dance at the pavilion starting at 9 p.m.
There is a $1 admission fee at the gate for all activities in the park, but all pavilion activi-ties and dances are free once you are inside the park. There is also a $2 fee for parking in-side the park.
