Fireworks show in Comanche
to celebrate Independence Day

$8,800 FOR THE LIVESTOCK BARN- This Brangus cow/calf pair donated by Dr. Bill and Karen Craig to the Hamilton County Livestock Association to help raise funds for a new livestock barn brought $8,800 at the Hamilton Commission Co. auction last Saturday. A buyers’ pool bought the pair the first time it was in the ring for $7,200 and then donated it back. The pair then sold to Dylan and Brad Whitehead for $1,600. The following individuals and businesses donated to the buyers’ pool: Ralph and Linda Lee, TP and Marcia Medlock, Roland, Danny and Derek Poe, Bottlinger Grain, John and Beth Averhoff, MC Farms, First National Bank – Evant and Gatesville, Bob and Mary Kay Gardner, Jimmy Sommerfeld, John Alexander, Hamil-ton Herald-News, Hamilton County Farm Bureau, Winters and Nancy Fox, Jamie and Rita Blackwell, Rainwater Trucking (Gary Rainwater), Steve and Kerri Watson, Wil-fong Bucking Bulls (Bob Wilfong), Darrell’s Truck Service (Darrell and Shirley Marwitz), Brumbalow Motors, David-son Craig Real Estate (Jeff Ensor), Action Cuts (Linda Lewis), Marvin and Margie Payne, Hamilton Commission Co. and Steve and Bobby Young. The Hamilton County Livestock Association expressed its appreciation to all those who contributed.
- The annual “Family on the 4th Celebration and Fireworks” will be held this Friday at the Comanche High School Indian football stadium starting at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Comanche Kiwanis Club, the event has attracted over 10,000 spectators to the stadium in recent years.
The Comanche Lions Club will be selling hot dogs and drinks. Event t-shirts will also be for sell for $10 each.
A musical celebration start-ing at 7 p.m. will feature Grammy Award winning performer Tommy Allsup.
Allsup began his musical ca-reer in 1949 as a guitarist with the Oklahoma Swingbillies. In 1958 he joined Buddy Holly as his lead guitarist only a year prior to Holly’s tragic death in an airplane crash. Allsup was scheduled to be on the illfated plane, but lost his seat via a coin toss to Ritchie Valens.
Over the years Allsup has played guitar for many of the biggest names in country music. He has played guitar or bass on close to 9,000 recording sessions and his work has been recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
In 2000, Allsup shared the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for “Bob’s Breakdown.”
Liv’s Dancers and other se-lected artists will also be per-forming on the Comanche County Medical Center Stage.
At 9 p.m. there will be a “Military Salute” to all veterans and active-duty members of the military on the track.
At 9:30 p.m. one of the largest fireworks shows in the State of Texas will begin.
