INDEPENDENCE- Old Glory is flying proudly this week at the Gentry's Mill Cemetery west of Hamilton in celebration of Independence Day and in honor of all veterans who have sacrificed to ensure our continued freedom. Small flags have also been placed on the graves of 94 veterans who are burried in the cemetery, continuing a tradition started by the late Rabbit Fuqua 30 years ago. The large flag flying above was used at Fuqua's funeral last year. The flags are also placed at the cemetery on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Staff Photo

Many area residents will en-joy a three-day weekend, as businesses and professional offices close Friday to celebrate Independence Day.
All federal offices, including the post office, will be closed Friday. All local and area banks will also be closed.
The Herald-News will be closed Friday. Ken’s True Value will be closed Friday and Saturday.
Others taking a holiday Fri-day include: Hamilton Rural Health Clinic, Hamilton City Hall and the Hamilton County Courthouse. There will be no trash pickup on Friday. Those normally having Friday trash service will receive it on Satur-day.
Both local grocery stores will be open during their regu-lar hours.
Although there has been some recent rainfall, conditions mostly remain dry, and area fire departments are urging anyone planning to have fireworks to use extreme caution.
The closest public fireworks show will be at the Comanche football field starting at 6:30 p.m.
