The Gentry’s Mill Cemetery Association will honor its veterans June 28 through July 5.
A new flagpole has been installed at the tabernacle, and a large flag will be flown for the first time. The flagpole was designed by John W. Roberts and installed by him and brothers Bobby and Jerry.
A plaque at the base of the flagpole reads, “Dedicated to the memory and honor of all our brave war veterans who have given so much of themselves to protect our freedom and heritage.”
The flag was used at the funeral of Rabbit Fuqua and will be flown at this time in his memory.
Also, there are 94 veterans buried at Gentry’s Mill with services ranging from Civil War to Iraq War. Each veteran’s grave will have a miniature flag placed on it.
Fuqua started this program 30 years ago by honoring these veterans on Memorial Day, July 4 and Veterans Day, and his family members will continue this service.
Cemetery Association president Peggy Boatwright invites everyone to drive by the cemetery and view these flags and see the new entrances. The cemetery is located in the Gentry’s Mill Community on CR 108. A formal dedication for the flagpole and plaque will be held at a later date.
