Wednesday's Internet Edition, August 27, 2008.
The annual Dove Festival Pageant will be held this Satur-day, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Chandler Craig Auditorium at Hamilton High School with a total of 37 young ladies from Hamilton County vying for the crown in six divisions. Providing entertainment that night will be Holly Hunter, daughter of Elizabeth and L.C. Hunter. She has been dancing with Jenni Holley Dance Studio in Waco for three years. In 2007, she was awarded the top dance studio scholarship, which gave her the opportunity to study dance in all its different forms. Hunter choreographs her own lyrical and liturgical dances as forms of religious expression. Her goal is to relate the love of Jesus through her dance. She trains in jazz, hip-hop, tap, ballet and lyrical. Also providing entertain-ment that night is Mikel Duder-stadt. She is the daughter of Janell Duderstadt, granddaugh-ter of Kenneth and Carolyn Duderstadt of Hamilton, and Cora and Glenn Poteet of Al-pine. She was Little Miss New Mexico from 2006 until 2008. She has been singing since the age of three and has won sev-eral vocal awards both in New Mexico and Texas. She aired live this summer on KCLW and also enjoyed a singing part in “Graceland” in June at the Civic Theater. Helping with the onstage questions with the girls for the second year is Mica Baize. Numerous businesses from the community have graciously donated items as a thank you to the judges, as well as sponsor-ing the girls in the pageant. As an added bonus this year, all who attend the pageant will be asked to submit their name for a drawing during the pageant. The Rejuvenation Station has donated a gift certificate for a foot scrub, and the Best West-ern Inn at Circle T has donated a one night stay, which cannot be redeemed during the Dove Festival weekend. Interviews for all contestants except the Sweethearts will be held all day before the pageant. The Sweethearts will be asked on-stage questions during the pageant. All contestants re-ceived their interview times during the rehearsal last week. Contestants will wear a red T-shirt and denim shorts or skirt to the interview and their pag-eant attire at the pageant that night. Any questions can be directed to pageant co-chairs Candace Stroud at 254-784-0683 or Harmony Thompson at 254-784-2713. Awards will be presented in all six divisions of the pageant – Sweetheart, Little Miss, Jun-ior Miss, Duchess, Princess and Queen. Each contestant will model an evening gown/fancy dress on stage. The judges will evaluate the contestants on modeling, ap-pearance, interview questions and photographs. Each division will also honor Most Photo-genic and Miss Congeniality and the Dove Festival Queen will receive a $500 scholarship. Most of that day’s activities will be held on the square downtown, while rodeos and dancing will be featured at the Circle T Arena. Vendors will set up around the square Friday evening and early Saturday, according to the Hamilton Chamber of Com-merce office. Runners will gather for the Dove Festival 5K early Satur-day morning, Aug. 30, with the start set for 8 a.m. There are routes for 5K and one mile, and the event is open to walkers and runners.
