Fifty-eight Hamilton High School students participated in graduation ceremonies Satur-day afternoon at Chandler Craig Auditorium. The group included 26 honor graduates who maintained an average of 90 or above over the past four years.
An honorary diploma in memory of Noah Wiedebusch, who was a member of the class until his death at the age of 14 on March 9, 2004, was pre-sented to his mother, Barbara. Noah was a beloved classmate and an inspiration to students and teachers alike as he battled Muscular Dystrophy while par-ticipating in numerous school activities. The graduating sen-iors wore a red ribbon in mem-ory of Noah and a cap and gown were placed in the chair where he would have been seated. Asa Hamilton wrote a song in Noah’s memory, which he sang during the ceremony.
Katie Neal, salutatorian, and Amber Weems, valedictorian, addressed the group with inspi-rational and humorous speeches.
Shelly Burch, who has been a Spanish teacher at HHS for the past three years, was se-lected as guest speaker. Follow-ing her remarks, she faced the graduates and sang I Will Go Down With This Ship.
Opening remarks were given by Asa Hamilton and Rachel Bottlinger. Seth LeBlanc gave closing remarks.
Eight graduates have enlisted in the military and will begin training shortly after graduation. Beginning service in the Navy are Mikayla Bias, Kelly Blum, Ethan Chorenziak, Dalton DeLeon, Garland Riggs, Jon Salley and Maycon Stork. Cole Wells has enlisted in the Army.
Diplomas were presented by HHS Superintendent Sam Bell, and School Board President Herman Lanmon, Jr. as names were announced by Principal Matt Dossey.
