Bruce Spence Biography:
Lifelong devotion to the field of acting has cemented the legacy of a particular Kiwi Actor. Bruce Spence was born on the 17th of September 1945 in Auckland North Island. This 6’7’’ tall actor has made a record in the Guinness records for being the tallest actor in a leading role. Despite him being born in New Zealand, most of his acting career was spent in the Australian film industry. Another fun fact about Bruce Spence is that he had a role in the third editions of many popular trilogies like Mad Max, Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and the Chronicles of Narnia.
Bruce Spence Career and Movies:
Bruce Spence began his career by appearing in a lead role in the Australian comedy Stork. Bruce played the role of Graham Stork Wallace and did justice to the character in the movie. The movie was directed by Tim Burstall and incidentally he helped Spence enter the record books. Spence was very much active throughout his entire acting career having played small roles in movies like Three Old Friends in 1974. Another notable part of his resume was his performance in the Australian horror comedy The Cars that Ate Paris. Spence was a person who liked to get involved in comic roles and this movie was a little bit deviated from what he was usually accustomed to. He displayed his proficiency in performing comic roles in movies like The Great Macarthy in 1975. Spence played the role of Bill Dean in a movie portraying a humorous side to Australian football. In the 1990 comedy, “The Shrimp on the Barbie” he played the role of Wayne. He played the role of Doug Mitchell in the 1981 movie Double Deal. The majority of his popularity as an actor might have been gained when he played the role of the Gyro captain in the 1981 post apocalyptic action film Mad Max 2. He also landed with the role of Ted in the 1983 action-drama named Ted. He accepted the role of Jonah in John Duigh’s production of an epic tale The Year My Voice Broke. Spence got the invaluable opportunity to work alongside renowned Australian actors such as Noyah Taylor and Loenne Carmen. Bruce Spence donned the sinister attitude and the foreboding make up of a 6000 year old vampire in the vampire drama Queen of the Damned in 2002. His performance had most probably spawned his reputation of being able to pull off the roles of intimidating characters. He had received and accepted the roles of the Trainman in two of the three editions of the Matrix trilogy. Such roles do give an insight into his acting abilities considering the fact that he appeared in the American comedy Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. In this movie, he got the chance to act alongside the comic icon Jim Carrey. In 2003, he played the role of the Mouth of Sauron in the Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King. Although that scene was edited from the actual movie, it was included in the extended versions. and the Chronicles of Narnia.
His most recent milestone has been appearing in the romantic drama Australia as Dr. Barker where he acted alongside award winning actors Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. He can also be seen as Lord Rhoop in the fantasy adventure Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Trader.
Bruce Spence has also made substantial contributions in the field of television making guest appearances in series like Zucker in 1987 and Return to Jupiter in 1997. In 2006, he played Vince in RAN: Remote Area Nurse. and the Chronicles of Narnia.
Bruce Spence’s Personal Life:
When Spence is not working on any film, he lives with his wife Jenny, in their house at McMasters Beach, New South Wales Central Coast. He had married her in 1973 and has had two children with her. He is a diehard fan of Australian Rugby with his favorite team being the “Wallington Hurricane”.
